GWS to help organize inaugural meeting of biodiversity taskforce
(June 18, 2010) — The GWS will be partnering with Conservation International and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to organize the first meeting of the steering committee of a new taskforce that will assess the biodiversity conservation benefits of protected areas.
Taskforce members will be drawn from two of IUCN's global expert networks: the World Commission on Protected Areas and the Species Survival Commission. GWS will manage the funding for the initial meeting of the 15-member steering committee, which will take place in July. The bulk of the taskforce's work will be done through a series of technical workshops to follow.
We will keep you posted on the taskforce's progress in future GWS News stories.
